Is there a page on the site that would provide me with some background information on the Million Books Project?

I'm interested in how it started, milestones along the way, and what grants and gifts were secured to support its development.

If there isn't a page on the site someone can point me to, are there citations to other sources?

Many thanks.

Funding for the Million Book Project is coming from multiple sources.

The Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India is funding the project in the Indian Institute of Science.

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) is funding the project at various partner centres of the Digital Library of India.

Various Centres have also pledged their local resources to make the Digital Library of India a reality.

The individual centres would acknowledge and provide more details about the agencies from which they have received support in their websites.

National Science Foundation is providing funding for Scanners and Software research and development.

The National Science Foundation's 2000 ITR grant cycle provided $500,000 for equipment to begin a Million Book pilot project. That grant will allow the purchase of 18 Minolta scanners to be located in India and China. These scanners have already been deployed to begin the scanning process. Additional scanners from other donors have permitted increase in the number of scanners deployed in India and China.
